Burma Photography Tour - Private Myanmar photo tours

One-on-one opportunities in Myanmar — one of the richest photographic destinations on the planet.

If you’ve never done a Burma photography tour, the time is now. For generations this amazing country has been virtually frozen in time, isolated from the economic and technological strides being boldly taken by its neighbours. That relative isolation, combined with Myanmar’s strong cultural traditions, created incredible and unique photographic opportunities on almost every dusty street corner or village track. Today, with the doors open to rapid modernisation, many of those image-making opportunities are becoming more elusive. Old practices are fading, landscapes are transforming, jobs are upscaling and people are migrating to where prosperity lies. And the mixed blessing of mass tourism is starting to make itself felt.

With our Burma photography tour, we’ve gone the extra mile to bring you some of the rare and unique opportunities offered by this fabulous destination. We seek out the streets, the markets, the villages that are still raw and authentic. We put you in front of faces and places where the Burma of old is still in stunning evidence. We travel to locations far from the tourist buses, and give you plenty of time and support to let you craft thoughtful and exciting images. And because we run this tour on a private basis rather than as a public group tour, you get a shooting programme tuned closely around your preferences and interests. All backed up by slick travel logistics and some of the best photography support and 'fixer' expertise in the business.

  • A private tour accompanied by our pro photography guide throughout
  • Start date, duration, content emphasis and itinerary to suit you
  • Typically starts Bangkok or Yangon but can be planned from any start point
  • Best time to visit for general photography: November → February

Tour highlights

From the most famous aspects of Burma – to the rarest visual treats

Fabulous shot opportunities

Researched by and for photographers to give you the best opportunities and vantage points. We seek out novel, photogenic yet authentic shooting material as well as well as Myanmar's iconic images.

Privileged encounters

Specially negotiated photography encounters with monks and nuns, local people going about their daily chores, farmers and livestock in their rural contexts. And our access to the tattooed women of Burma is unparalleled.

Professional logistics and fixing

Led by one of the most experienced photography guides in Myanmar, an accomplished shooter and fixer who has been guiding tours in Burma for serious amateurs and professional photographers for many years.

Tour itinerary

Eat. Sleep. Shoot.

As this is a private photography tour of Myanmar, everything is tailored around you. For example, your Burma photography tour may want to emphasise its monastery life, its tattooed tribespeople or its bustling street markets. A classic 10-day itinerary could whisk you across to the choicest aspects of Burma’s best-known photographic highlights. A 15-day itinerary would include some of its rarer and less publicly accessible opportunities, as well as provide more time for careful, considered shooting sessions. Locations we visit would typically include Yangon, Bagan, Mindat, Salay, Sagaing, Mandalay, Amarapura, Mingun and Inle Lake, but our approach to private tours is driven more by your preferred pace, content and style rather than any specific route.

Varanasi Photography Tour with Agra and the Taj Mahal

Varanasi and Agra: A photo-foray to capture two great icons of northern India, led by an Indian pro photographer.

For serious photographers looking to get the most out of a visit to India's most famous photography destinations, we've designed a Varanasi photography tour that gives you extensive and hand-picked opportunities in this, one of the holiest cities on the planet — with an option to take in Agra and the iconic Taj Mahal. Whether you choose to adopt this itinerary as described, tweak it or tack it on to the beginning or end of a longer India tour, our accompanying pro photographer will work with you to reveal the best ways of shooting the standard shots and to uncover the unexpected gems.

Our mission here is simple: waste no time, go straight to where the best shots are, go a lot deeper than the average visitor. We plan the key opportunities thoroughly and leave plenty of room for the most important photographic ingredient of all… serendipity.

  • A private tour accompanied by our pro photographer throughout
  • Start date, duration, content emphasis and itinerary to suit you
  • Typically starts Delhi but can be planned from any start point
  • All-year-round shooting destination
  • Coolest October → March; monsoon June → September; hottest April → June
  • Minimum two days and nights suggested in Varanasi
  • Taj Mahal and Agra visit tacks on nicely, but any forward destination can be planned.

Photography Tours 2018–19

Two ways to do a photography tour with us: choose a group photo tour (fixed itineraries and departure dates, anyone can join), or create a private photo tour (itineraries and dates to suit you and your private group) based on any itinerary or shooting interest.

India photography tours for groups 2018–19

Travelshooters’ group photography tours are meticulously planned and researched. Our photo tours will delight serious photographers but even non-photographers will have brilliant fun and gain amazing cultural insights.

Our group photography tours typically accept a maximum of eight photographers led by our Shoot Director. Larger groups can overcrowd the shoot location and photography subjects, and limit the time each photographer can spend with the subjects without distraction. We often shoot with fewer photographers, subject to our minimum numbers requirement.

Private Photography Tours

Why go private?

Private tours are shaped entirely around you and your party.

Travelshooters’ private photography tours are aimed at serious photographers and private groups with a very specific photographic focus. Your can base your itinerary on one of our group photography tours, or ask us about private photo tour opportunities and itineraries which are simply not offered to larger groups. Either way, your preferences set the pace, the intensity and the coverage, while our accompanying Shoot Director works with our logistics team to ensure that everything runs like clockwork.

How our private photography tours work

Shaped around you

The very best shooting opportunities

We can take you into shooting contexts that simply wouldn't be possible with a large group… tiny huts, sensitive situations, places where a group of shooters would inevitably destroy the mood. We can give you calm, in-depth time with your subjects so you can hand-craft each frame rather than skim the surface. And we can bring in specialist guides, including those who have worked with top international photographers for world-renowned publications.

Expert creative and logistic support

You'll be accompanied at all shooting sessions by our photographer, who will work with you and his support team to ensure you're working in the best photographic contexts, with the right subjects and the right light. If you prefer to use lights and reflectors or seek specialist shooting platforms such as helicopters, private yachts, special vehicles or drones, we can make those happen without you having to cart everything halfway across the world.

100% focus

It's your tour and the itinerary is planned 100% around you: dates, locations, subjects, support, the works. So it brings total control over the content, depth and pace of your shooting itinerary. We'll exchange photos pre-tour: your vision, our reccy and context shots, and share extensive scheduling and planning documents. Our goal is to ensure that when you walk in to the live setting, it's all about the shooting rather than the setting up.

Your kind of creature comforts

With a private tour,  you naturally get to decide the standard of accommodation you'd like. Tents? Huts? Palaces? Tree houses? If it's available in the shooting zone, you can have it.

Here’s what one private client wrote after his custom-designed, 22-day private photography tour of South East Asia with Travelshooters:

“Travelshooters delivered all we had expected and more.”

“Since in a 1 to 10 scale there is no more than 10, we give Travelshooters a 10. The planning and structuring phase was perfect. We were all along surprised by the speed and thoughtfulness of Bruce’s answers to our queries and concerns. The materials provided (particularly the travel agenda) contained all necessary information we needed to understand where we were going, staying and travelling. Hotel choice was perfect … Air, land and water transportation were as expected… Travelshooters exceeded by far the services we received last year when we travelled to India with [major British luxury tour provider].”

Private photography tour client Don Macalister from Auckland, New Zealand gave us this recommendation, and his permission to publish it:

“I was free to shoot as the Travelshooters team took care of transport, guides and accommodation seamlessly.”

“Our Travelshooters custom tour with pro photographer Arun Bhat put me in the right places at the right times for the shots I had hoped for. I was free to shoot as the Travelshooters team took care of transport, guides and accommodation seamlessly. Thank you for a memorable trip.”

Private photography tour client Ron Tate gave us this recommendation, and his permission to publish it:

“I have only the best of memories – plenty of opportunities for some really extraordinary photos of people just going about their lives, just what I came for.”

“Some photo opportunities and visits were creative and chosen to fit my interests, others we came across in our wanderings. I was able to give all my attention to taking the best possible photographs because everything else – transport, hotel and such – was done by Travelshooters. All I had to do was be in the hotel lobby at the required time.”

Private photography tour client Bob Miller gave us this recommendation, and his permission to publish it:

“The trip was spectacular, and we look forward to going back to India someday. We would definitely use your services. Although not inexpensive, your itinerary was wonderful and definitely worth it.”

“Everyone was where they were supposed to be on time. We were particularly pleased with how well organized and orchestrated the tour was.”

Private photography tour client Mike Woodworth gave us this recommendation, and his permission to publish it:

“Travelshooters is probably by far the best travel photography outfit in the world today. It is used by some of the world’s best known outdoor pro shooters.”

“If like me you are serious about your photography and you want to come away from a trip with top of the line fantastic images then this is who you are going go with. It makes no difference if you’re a pro or an amateur, just being with these guides is going to boost your ability and creativity to a whole new level. From the moment you land in a new country you will be immersed in the cultural, the people, and the photography. Your guides will make sure to have you shooting all different kinds of shots in different arenas (in a hut with tribespeople, street photography, landscapes etc.) and they are there to help you get the best shots. I just got back from a trip with Travelshooters and I will be heading out with them again in a few months to different spot on the globe. If you want to get the kind of shots you only see in the best photographic magazines then I suggest you go with Travelshooters.”
